How do you prepare an adventure for a pen and paper rpg?

So, you are the master and you want to prepare the most enjoyable possible experience for your players. Have you got any tips on doing this? And what about the organization of the prepared material? I’m quite messy and I was wondering if anyone has advice to give about how to organize the preparation of an adventure/campaign for an rpg.
