Do you need the original Warcraft lll CD to play with the Frozen Throne extension?

I am going to buy a Warcraft lll : The Frozen Throne for my Mac Mini. I do not have the original Warcraft CD or any other Warcraft merchandise installed on my computer. This is the first time I am going to install the expansion. Do I have to have the original CD for the expansion to work? If I do, does it come in a package with the expansion? Thanks in advance.
